Typhoon Champi forces widespread flight cancellations and ferry suspensions across Taiwan

Typhoon Champi prompted the cancellation or delay of many international and domestic flights and the suspension of several ferry routes in Taiwan on Saturday.

Typhoon Champi’s arrival prompted a sweeping shutdown of air and sea transport in Taiwan on Saturday. Starlux Airlines scrapped flights to Jakarta, Shimojishima and Okinawa and delayed services to the Philippines, Japan and Vietnam, while also cancelling all Taichung routes and its Taipei-Shimojishima and Taipei-Okinawa sectors. Tigerair Taiwan announced the cancellation of numerous Japan-bound flights and several routes to South Korea’s Jeju, with additional delays on other Asian connections.

EVA Air and China Airlines warned of cancellations and schedule changes at Taoyuan and Songshan airports. Domestic operators Uni Air and Mandarin Airlines withdrew multiple flights to Taipei, Taichung, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung and outlying islands, and the Maritime and Port Bureau halted six ferry services linking Keelung, Matsu, Nangan, Beigan, Donggang, Yanpu and Fugang with various destinations. Travelers were advised to monitor airline and bureau websites for the latest information.
