Typhoon Dujuan leaves over 10,000 homes powerless in eastern Japan

Typhoon Dujuan delivered unprecedented rain to eastern Japan, resulting in widespread power loss for more than 10,000 homes in Chiba Prefecture and dozens of additional outages in neighboring Kanagawa. TEPCO Power Grid Inc. cautioned that repairs may be prolonged as landslides and downed trees have rendered many roads impassable, hindering inspection and repair crews. Local authorities reported that roughly 2,700 households in Chiba are also without tap water, prompting residents like Shoji Sakuma in Ichihara to rely on limited solar power and consider sleeping in their cars, while Ayumi Kono in Kimitsu carries water home and uses disposable utensils to conserve supplies.

The typhoon has claimed 11 lives—seven in Chiba and four in Kanagawa—and left three individuals missing. Recovery efforts are hampered by the damaged infrastructure and ongoing severe weather conditions.
