U-Haul employee charged with killing coworker after workplace dispute in Nashville

A 23-year-old U-Haul worker, Devin Rice, was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing 56-year-old coworker Fredrick Lytton during an argument at a Nashville store.

Metropolitan Nashville Police Department arrested 23-year-old Devin Rice on August 5, accusing him of fatally shooting his 56-year-old coworker Fredrick Lytton at a U-Haul location in Nashville, Tennessee. According to investigators, the two men argued over a drink during their shift, after which Rice allegedly produced a handgun and discharged it several times at Lytton. Lytton was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Rice fled the premises but was later taken into custody and faces a criminal homicide charge. Community member Joshua Houghtaylen commented that the incident reflects a rise in local violence and urged police to remove more firearms from the streets. Jeff Porter, U-Haul’s area district vice president for Tennessee, said the company was “shocked and deeply saddened,” and is focusing on assisting the victim’s family and affected employees. An obituary highlighted Lytton’s career as a cross-country truck driver and his love of NASCAR, animals, and classic country music.
