U.S. Attorney probes Ilhan Omar's financial disclosures after DC home search

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced a probe into Rep. Ilhan Omar's financial disclosure forms, coming a day after Homeland Security agents searched her D.C. residence.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro disclosed that her office is reviewing Rep. Ilhan Omar's recent financial disclosure statements, which show a steep increase in the valuation of two enterprises tied to her husband, Tim Mynett. The assets, a California winery (eStCru LLC) and a D.C.-based venture capital firm (Rose Lake Capital LLC), were reported at as much as $30 million combined for 2024, up from a total of roughly $15,000 to $51,000 the previous year.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer had earlier requested detailed records from the two companies, prompting scrutiny from Republican lawmakers. Omar later amended the filings in April, listing the businesses as having no net worth after accounting for liabilities, and a House Ethics Committee review found no substantial evidence of false reporting. On the day before Pirro's announcement, Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a search warrant at Omar's Washington, D.C., home as part of an ongoing criminal investigation, though officials said it is unclear whether the raid relates to the financial inquiry. Omar has repeatedly denied any misconduct and suggested the investigations are politically motivated.

Why it matters

The probe could expose potential misuse of disclosure rules and affect public trust in a high-profile congresswoman.
