U.S. Clears $1 Billion Sale of Precision Rocket Kits to the UAE
The United States approved a $1 billion export of up to 10,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System guidance sections to the United Arab Emirates.
On October 5, the United States authorized a $1 billion weapons sale to the United Arab Emirates, covering as many as 10,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System guidance sections for rockets. The State Department explained that the equipment will improve the UAE’s self-defence posture and interoperability with U.S. forces, while also serving U.S. security interests. The precision kit converts standard rockets into accurate weapons capable of engaging drones, reducing reliance on expensive missiles.
The approval coincided with a $400 million deal for Kuwait, providing repair and return services for Patriot missiles that have been vital in countering regional Iranian attacks. Both sales aim to reinforce the defence capabilities of key Gulf allies amid ongoing tensions with Iran.
Why it matters
The deals enhance Gulf allies' defence against Iranian drone and missile threats and deepen U.S. security ties in the region.
