U.S. Emerges as Major LPG Supplier as India Expands Energy Mix

During a discussion at the New York Foreign Press Centre, State Department Deputy Assistant Secretary Bethany Morrison said the partnership between the United States and India has grown significantly over the past year, now spanning energy, defence, commercial ties and multilateral engagement. She announced that the United States is the largest exporter of liquefied petroleum gas to India, marking a new role in New Delhi's effort to diversify its energy portfolio.

Morrison cited the 10-year defence framework agreement and the recent enactment of the SHANTI Act, which reforms India's nuclear regulatory regime and opens opportunities for civil nuclear projects. She emphasized that South Asia has risen to a top priority for the administration, with initiatives such as the Quad reinforcing the strategic link. The official expressed enthusiasm about the expanding cooperation across multiple sectors and the heightened attention the region is receiving.
