U.S. equities rise as AI stocks surge, Treasury yields climb

U.S. stock indexes opened higher on Thursday, led by AI-related shares, despite higher Treasury yields and oil prices.

On Thursday morning, U.S. markets opened in positive territory, with the Dow Jones up roughly 85 points, the S&P 500 climbing 0.2%, and the Nasdaq advancing 0.3%. The rally was driven by AI-focused companies after Micron reported quarterly revenue that quadrupled and Alphabet’s shares rose on the debut of its Gemini AI model. Treasury yields reached their highest level since 2002, with the 10-year yield touching 5.342%, before retreating later in the session.

Oil prices also rose, with Brent nearing $100 a barrel and WTI above $91. Analysts noted that despite these headwinds, corporate earnings have remained resilient, though Micron’s profit margins may face pressure from higher employee compensation.

Why it matters

The market move shows how AI earnings and oil prices are influencing U.S. stocks amid rising borrowing costs.
