U.S. ready to green-light Germany's transfer of ten Patriot interceptors to Ukraine

Congressional records from Sept. 15 show the United States is set to approve Germany’s shipment of ten MIM-104E GEM-T Patriot interceptor missiles to Ukraine, a package worth $29.6 million. The State Department’s notification says the transfer fits U.S. security assistance objectives and will be automatically authorized unless a joint resolution blocks it. Ukraine faces a severe deficit of Patriot munitions, the only system reliably capable of shooting down Russian ballistic missiles, while the GEM-T upgrade adds a new fuse and enhanced radar for better performance against drones and cruise missiles.

Earlier in September, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius announced Berlin would provide more PAC-2 interceptors, a step praised by President Volodymyr Zelensky as bringing peace closer. The move comes as Patriot supplies have been strained by the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran, which has redirected stocks to the Middle East.
