U.S. Secretary of State Rubio to tour Colombia, Ecuador and Peru next week

The U.S. Secretary of State will embark on a three-day Latin American tour, visiting Ecuador, Colombia and Peru. His first stop is Ecuador, where he will again meet President Daniel Noboa, a leader he previously encountered on a 2025 visit. The delegation then proceeds to Colombia to confer with President Abelardo de la Espriella, whose administration began on August 7, focusing on U.S. support for the country's response to a devastating earthquake that claimed about 300 lives and injured thousands.

In Peru, Rubio is scheduled to meet President Keiko Fujimori, inaugurated on July 28. Across the three nations, discussions will address cooperation on drug-trafficking interdiction and the expansion of bilateral trade. The State Department’s statement did not reference neighboring Venezuela, despite heightened U.S. involvement there. This marks Rubio’s first official trips to Colombia and Peru as the top U.S. diplomat.
