U.S. Secures Extradition of Three Russian Cybercriminals from Cyprus, Georgia and Thailand

Since June, U.S. authorities have secured the extradition of three Russian citizens for distinct cyber-crime prosecutions. Cyprus handed over Searzhudin Aktulayev, who allegedly operated roughly 255 bogus freelance-platform accounts to deliver malicious files to around 80,000 victims, many in the United States, resulting in data theft and identity fraud. Georgia extradited web developer Sergei Filimonov, accused of creating fake bank websites and purchasing sponsored Google links that diverted customers to credential-stealing pages, a scheme that generated $28 million in illicit transfers.

Thailand sent Denis Obrezko, alleged supporter of the Void Blizzard group, which Microsoft ties to Russian interests and says has attacked government, defense, media and healthcare targets across NATO nations, compromising at least 11 U.S. firms. The defendants face charges ranging from wire fraud and aggravated identity theft to computer fraud, with potential sentences spanning up to 20 years for Aktulayev and up to 175 years combined for Filimonov, though actual terms are expected to be lower.
