U.S. to disclose details of recent trade talks with China on Monday

Jamieson Greer, the U.S. Trade Representative, announced that the United States will release additional details on its recent trade negotiations with China on Monday. He described the talks as a managed trade situation in which both sides have agreed to exempt specific high-value goods from future disputes. The U.S. plans to export agricultural products and medical devices, while importing non-sensitive consumer goods from China.

Greer clarified that the negotiations did not address a small tranche of advanced U.S. chips that require licensing, which he called the "crown jewels" of American technology. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng have extended the existing tariff-pause agreement until Jan 10. The announcements follow a White House meeting between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping that produced no major breakthroughs.
