UAE Cricket Chief Khalid Al Zarooni Named Vice-President of Asian Cricket Council
Khalid Al Zarooni, president of the Emirates Cricket Board, was unanimously chosen as the Asian Cricket Council's new vice-president, and the Afghanistan Cricket Board was added as a full member eligible for the ACC presidency.
During the Asian Cricket Council's annual general meeting, Khalid Al Zarooni, who leads the Emirates Cricket Board, was elected unanimously to serve as the council's vice-president. The meeting addressed several governance items, such as the rotation policy for the ACC presidency and the creation of new committees. A key decision was the inclusion of the Afghanistan Cricket Board among the full-member boards, granting it eligibility to assume the ACC presidency, a role previously shared by India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
The ACC also confirmed the composition of its Executive Board for the 2026-28 term, appointing Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Saoud Al Thani (Qatar) and Mahmood Gaznavi (Singapore) as non-Test representatives, and Mohamed Faisal (Maldives) and Mohammad Mansoor (Bahrain) as associate members. Al Zarooni's appointment underscores the UAE's expanding stature in Asian cricket, highlighted by its hosting of major tournaments and the launch of the International League T20, where he serves as chairman. Later this week, Dubai International Stadium will host the eight-team Women's Asia Cup.
