Uber and Pony.ai expand partnership to launch 2,000 robotaxis across Europe

Uber and Pony.ai announced an enlarged alliance aimed at introducing as many as 2,000 autonomous taxis in four cities across Europe, though they did not specify which cities or a launch timetable. Under the joint-deployment model, Pony.ai, based in Guangzhou, will supply the driverless vehicle technology, while Uber will integrate the service into its extensive ride-hailing network. Maintenance, cleaning and charging are expected to be managed by regional providers, and ownership of the vehicles could vary by market.

The move follows a prior Middle-East focus and a recent plan to start a commercial robotaxi service in Zagreb, Croatia, together with local operator Verne. No further details were given, with the companies saying more information will be released in phases.
