Uber launches UK's first robotaxi service in London using Wayve's AI fleet

Uber has become the first company to offer a commercial robotaxi service in London, using autonomous cars powered by Wayve’s AV2.0 artificial-intelligence platform. The initial rollout features Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicles, with Nissan Leaf models slated for future addition, and includes human safety drivers licensed by Transport for London who monitor but do not control the cars. Wayve’s system relies on cameras and radar, forgoing lidar and traditional HD maps, and operates without a predefined geofence.

Uber will maintain and service the fleet in partnership with UK operator Otto Car, while Wayve retains responsibility for the self-driving software. The launch gives Uber a lead over Waymo, which expects to start its own London service later this year, and tests demand for driverless ride-hailing beyond the US and China.
