UConn hires former Spurs executive Charlie Stevens as men's basketball GM

UConn’s men’s basketball program will add Charlie Stevens as its next general manager, according to a university source. Stevens, originally from the Bronx, captained Clark University’s team before entering the San Antonio Spurs organization straight out of college in 2021. Over five seasons he progressed from a scouting assistant to director of grassroots scouting, gaining extensive contacts across the sport.

He succeeds Tom Moore, who stepped down after one year in the position he helped establish. The move aligns with UConn’s desire for a younger executive with NBA experience and overseas ties, and continues the school’s pipeline to the Spurs, highlighted by recent draft selections. Details of Stevens’ responsibilities under head coach Dan Hurley remain unclear, but the role typically covers name, image, likeness and transfer portal matters.
