UDMR's Barna warns new prime-minister nomination if Mureșan cabinet stalls in parliament

During the presentation of Siegfried Mureșan’s governing agenda, UDMR representative Tanczos Barna, nominated for vice-premier and agriculture minister, outlined the coalition’s strategy and the risks of a parliamentary defeat. He said negotiations this week could still produce a PNL-USR-UDMR majority, but if they fail, the coalition’s first priority will be a new prime-minister nomination by President Nicușor Dan. Barna emphasized the urgency of confirming a government, noting that PSD and AUR have already ruled out voting for the Mureșan cabinet, which needs 233 votes.

He warned that a stalemate could lead the president to call early elections. Mureșan, who will submit his ministerial list to Parliament, indicated that an unresolved crisis might force a public referendum on parliamentary majority. The proposed cabinet includes 16 ministers and a secretary-general from USR, Dan Reșitnec, with several members previously serving under Ilie Bolojan.
