UEFA asks U.S. court to block FIFA subsidiaries from joining discovery fight
UEFA petitioned a Manhattan federal court to deny FIFA's American arms the chance to intervene in its request for evidence linked to a possible Swiss criminal probe of Gianni Infantino.
UEFA submitted a motion in Manhattan federal court on Thursday, urging the judge to reject an attempt by FIFA's U.S. subsidiaries, FIFA (Americas) Inc and FWC2026 US Inc, to intervene in its discovery request. The request, filed under U.S. discovery law, aims to obtain testimony and documents from Thrive Capital Management and its founder Joshua Kushner, who may hold information about the proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise transaction that Infantino cancelled on August 1.
UEFA contended the subsidiaries have no direct legal interest because they are not targets of the contemplated Swiss criminal case and are not subject to the subpoenas. The European federation warned that permitting the intervention would add an unnecessary round of briefing and delay, contrary to typical Section 1782 practice. UEFA also signaled it is considering a criminal complaint in Switzerland alleging mismanagement by Infantino and possibly other FIFA officials. FIFA has accused UEFA of a smear campaign, while Infantino denies any wrongdoing.
