UEFA opens disciplinary probe into Greenwood and Guendouzi after post-match brawl
Fenerbahce confirmed that UEFA has launched a disciplinary process involving its players Mason Greenwood and Matteo Guendouzi, as well as the club itself. The investigation stems from a chaotic scene at full-time when Guendouzi provoked Lyon supporters and was confronted by the French side’s goalkeeping coach Antonio Ferreira, leading to a physical altercation. Both players made obscene gestures and were later seen together making finger signs in the dressing room. Fenerbahce said it will submit defenses to the relevant UEFA committees before the upcoming match against Roma.
Following Fenerbahce’s 2-1 second-leg victory over Lyon, which secured a 3-2 aggregate win and progression to the Champions League league phase, UEFA opened a disciplinary case involving Mason Greenwood and Matteo Guendouzi. Video shows Guendouzi taunting Lyon fans, shouting “Allez l’OM,” and grabbing his crotch, while Greenwood mimicked the gesture toward the home crowd. After the final whistle, a Lyon goalkeeping coach identified as Antonio Ferreira confronted Guendouzi, sparking a melee that saw punches thrown and security intervening.
Both players later posed together in the locker room, making finger gestures. Fenerbahce issued a statement that it will present defenses to UEFA and monitor developments ahead of its next European fixture against Roma.
