Uganda's health ministry has ordered a mandatory 21-day quarantine for citizens returning from the Democratic Republic of Congo to bolster Ebola prevention. Minister Chris Baryomunsi said the decision follows cooperation with Nigerian authorities on a recent Ebola case involving a woman who had travelled from Uganda, and after confirming that the virus strain matches Kenya's index case. He noted that the 60 contacts linked to the Kenyan case have finished their monitoring period and been released.
The ministry has stepped up screening at Entebbe International Airport and all land border points, requiring travelers to fill out a passenger locator form. Genomic analysis shows the Nigerian virus is closely related to Kenya's strain, though no direct travel link has been proven. Uganda, which borders Congo where the outbreak began, has previously managed Ebola outbreaks.
