CCOO and UGT have scheduled a 24-hour general strike to highlight the need for dignified housing and adequate wages, reacting to the legislative body's dismissal of recent housing decree-laws. The unions are aligning their labor demands with tenant and neighborhood groups. Documents obtained by the outlet indicate that Pepe Álvarez, who leads UGT, owns a 132-square-metre duplex attic in Barcelona's Gràcia neighbourhood, along with an adjacent garage, both bought in 1992.
In his native Belmonte de Miranda, Asturias, Álvarez and his sister Elena own a town house and five separate plots, all purchased in 2017 and free of any charges. The combined area of the rural parcels exceeds nine thousand square metres, and one plot contains a 24-square-metre agricultural storage structure.
