UK and US reaffirm shared resolve on 9/11 25th anniversary, Burnham says

Ceremonies on both sides of the Atlantic commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, with UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham stressing the United Kingdom’s unity with the United States and the defence of common values. Burnham remembered the almost 3,000 fatalities, among them 67 British citizens, and recalled the outpouring of support from the US after the Manchester attacks he oversaw as mayor. He highlighted letters from children of 9/11 victims to families of Manchester victims, underscoring a sense of shared grief.

Former Prime Minister Tony Blair described the day as a turning point that cemented an "unshakeable and essential bond" and called for renewed commitment to counter terrorism. US ambassador Warren Stephens praised the historic transatlantic partnership and noted ongoing intelligence and military cooperation that began after the attacks. The remarks came as a memorial stone was unveiled at the US embassy in London, symbolising the lasting alliance.
