UK asylum-seeking women allege sexual assaults by locals, fear reporting over immigration risks

Female asylum seekers in Britain have reported incidents of rape and sexual assault by British men, often within state-run accommodation facilities. One woman, after fleeing religious persecution, said a hotel staff member repeatedly harassed her, while another recent arrival from Iran recounted being raped by a security guard at a Home Office-managed hotel near Heathrow. Both expressed fear of reporting the crimes, concerned that police involvement could harm their asylum applications and uncertain about the process.

During protests in Dover and Portsmouth, far-right activist Danny Tommo and supporters amplified unverified accusations that asylum seekers are responsible for widespread sexual violence. Representatives from Women for Refugee Women and Rape Crisis England & Wales argue that such rhetoric distracts from the systemic abuse faced by these women and urge immediate safeguards, emphasizing that violence is not limited to any nationality or immigration status.
