UK Drivers Invited to Claim Share of £56 million Overcharge Refund
A UK court has cleared a £56 million payout to consumers who were overcharged on new-car delivery fees, and experts are urging eligible buyers to register now.
Following a European Commission ruling that penalised six shipping companies for colluding on vehicle transport prices, a UK court sanctioned a compensation plan worth £55.87 million. The scheme targets consumers and businesses that bought or leased new cars or vans from 37 manufacturers between October 2006 and September 2015. Payouts start at £25 for the first affected vehicle, with additional amounts for multiple purchases.
Mark McLaren, a former consumer expert at Which?, is urging eligible parties to register at the official portal, where they can choose cash, Nectar points or charitable gifts. Government bodies and local authorities that acquired vehicles in the same window are also slated to receive payments. Registration is open now, and the distribution of funds is expected later this year.
