UK halal frozen food maker Quality Bites enters liquidation

Quality Bites, a halal frozen food supplier stocked in over 1,000 independent UK supermarkets, has been placed into liquidation after a voluntary winding up on October 7.

Quality Bites, a halal frozen-food manufacturer that began operations in May 2013, announced its voluntary winding-up on October 7 and entered liquidation shortly thereafter. The West Midlands-based firm, which marketed items such as samosas, kebabs and crispy chicken and claimed to be a leading ethnic-food producer, served over 1,000 independent supermarkets across the United Kingdom. Hall Chadwick (UK) Limited’s partner Deviesh Raikundalia has been appointed liquidator, and the formal resolutions and creditor notices were posted in The Gazette on October 22.

The company’s demise occurs amid a challenging year for British businesses, with high-street retailers and major hospitality chains also shutting stores. Analysts note the closure highlights pressures on niche food suppliers within a broader economic slowdown.

Why it matters

The liquidation underscores strain on UK ethnic-food producers amid a wider downturn for small and mid-size retailers.
