UK terror-related arrests surge over 1,000% in the year to June 2026
The Home Office reported 3,867 terrorism-related arrests in the year ending June 2026, a rise of more than 1,000% compared with the ten-year median.
Official figures show almost 4,000 people were detained for suspected terrorist activity, marking a 1,525% increase over the historical ten-year average of 238 arrests. The majority, about 94%, were linked to support for Palestine Action after it was banned as a terror group on July 5 of the previous year. Among those detained were 46 individuals aged 17 or younger, the second-highest number of youth arrests on record. The data highlight a sharp escalation in counter-terror operations since the proscription of the group.
Why it matters
The dramatic rise in terrorism arrests signals heightened security threats and expanded law-enforcement focus in the UK.
