UK travel guidance tightened as Thailand halves visa-free stay for British visitors
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has warned that Thailand now limits visa-free visits for British travellers to 30 days, down from 60.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office updated its advice for UK citizens after Thailand cut the visa-free period from 60 to 30 days for British travellers, aligning with changes for the US, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, India and Japan. Visitors wishing to stay longer must apply for an extension of up to 30 additional days and show a confirmed onward ticket and at least 10,000 Thai Baht per person or 20,000 Baht per family if asked by border officials.
Entry without a visa by land is now limited to twice per calendar year, and authorities may scrutinise frequent back-to-back entries. All foreign arrivals must submit an online digital arrival card up to three days before arrival. The FCDO also warned that Thailand’s rainy season is becoming more erratic, with heavy rain potentially causing flash flooding, landslides and road closures, especially in northern and mountainous regions. Travelers are urged to follow local authority guidance and monitor updates from the Thai Meteorological Department.
