Ukraine Announces ceasefire in occupied Oleshky lasting until November 1
Ukraine says a cease-fire in Russian-held Oleshky will run from Oct. 27 until 10:59 p.m. on Nov. 1, aiming to evacuate civilians and deliver aid.
Ukraine’s negotiating delegation announced that a cease-fire in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky will be in effect from the early hours of Oct. 27 until 10:59 p.m. on Nov. 1. The agreement, detailed by David Arakhamia on his Telegram channel, is described as the most significant de-escalation since 2022. Its purpose is to enable the safe evacuation of residents and the delivery of humanitarian supplies.
The truce began at 4:00 a.m. Moscow time (3:00 a.m. Kyiv time) and the Russian side has not issued a comment. According to the White House, U.S. first lady Melania Trump played a role in initiating the agreement. Oleshky, in the Kherson region, has been under Russian control since 2022 and has faced severe shortages of food, electricity and medical care after a wave of drone attacks in late 2026.
Why it matters
The cease-fire offers a rare window for humanitarian relief in a city suffering under prolonged occupation.
