Ukraine authorises private gas producers to export up to 15% of output
The Ukrainian government has approved a partial restart of natural gas exports, allowing private producers to sell up to 15% of their monthly output abroad.
On Wednesday, Ukraine's cabinet approved a partial reopening of natural gas exports, granting private producers the right to sell up to 15% of the gas they extracted in the previous month to foreign buyers. The new rule excludes large state-owned companies and entities subject to special obligations, including Ukrgasvydobannia, Ukrnafta and Chornomornaftogaz. The Ministry of Energy will compile a list of eligible firms and allocate export volumes based on monthly delivery data from the Gas Transmission System Operator.
Sales will be conducted in specialized sessions, likely on the Ukrainian Energy Exchange, with pricing in euros per megawatt-hour. The policy aims to attract investment, address a commercial gas surplus, and capitalize on the price gap between Ukrainian and European markets.
Why it matters
The move could boost Ukraine's revenue and attract investment while easing domestic gas supply pressures.
