Ukraine deploys AI-guided air defenses to down Russian drones
Ukraine’s defence forces are using artificial intelligence to calculate drone trajectories and guide automated gun-turret systems that shoot down incoming Russian UAVs.
The Ukrainian defence ministry says its robot-operated towers fire machine-gun rounds at approaching drones. AI processes visual data to predict flight paths, enabling the system to engage both propeller-driven and faster jet-propelled Russian drones. Jurij Ihnat, a spokesperson for the armed forces, explained that machine vision and AI together improve interception capability.
Why it matters
AI-enhanced defenses could change how Ukraine counters Russian drone attacks, affecting the conflict’s dynamics.
