Ukraine launches massive rocket strike on Russian port city Taganrog
Ukraine carried out a large rocket barrage on the Russian port of Taganrog, sparking fires but causing no casualties, while also striking targets in the Samara region and Kyiv.
In the early hours, Ukrainian forces unleashed a large-scale rocket barrage on Taganrog, the Russian Azov-Sea port only about four miles from the Ukrainian frontier, setting multiple fires and striking an Ozon storage facility, Governor Jurij Sljusar said, adding that there were no fatalities or injuries. Taganrog’s mayor Svetlana Kambulova confirmed the hit on the Ozon warehouse. Simultaneously, drones targeted the Samara region roughly 700 km from the border; regional governor Vjatsjeslav Fedoritsjtsjev reported that more than 40 hostile drones were downed and that an oil refinery in Syzran suffered damage, with nearby residential buildings also affected.
Social-media footage showed flames at the refinery. In Kyiv, the city’s mayor Vitalij Klitsjko said a drone struck a gasoline station and another warehouse. The attacks came a day after former US President Donald Trump announced a Russia-Ukraine non-aggression pact on energy sites.
Why it matters
The strikes illustrate a widening of the Ukraine-Russia conflict into deeper Russian territory and civilian infrastructure.
