Ukraine lifts gas export ban, opens talks with Moldova on commercial supply
Ukraine has removed restrictions on natural gas exports and is ready to negotiate commercial shipments to the Republic of Moldova.
Ukraine announced the removal of its gas export restrictions, signalling readiness to resume shipments to the Republic of Moldova on a commercial basis. Ambassador Paun Rohovei told a TVR Moldova program that the necessary conditions for dialogue and cooperation are in place, emphasizing regional interconnection. Moldova's prime minister Vasile Tofan confirmed plans to travel to Kyiv to negotiate a multi-year gas purchase agreement.
Energy specialist Eugen Muravschi highlighted that Ukrainian gas could help diversify Moldova's supply and reduce transport expenses compared with liquefied gas imports. He also mentioned that future projects, such as the Neptun Deep field, may further strengthen regional energy cooperation. The negotiations come as Moldova remains under a 60-day emergency status in the energy sector.
