Ukraine lifts wounded soldier with modified bomber drone on Kharkiv front while testing new evacuation drone prototype

A heavily modified bomber drone built by Gurzuf Defence was used to lift an infantryman named “Kostya” from the Kharkiv front and fly him 18 km to a safe zone, with the lift piloted by a member of the 30th Mechanised Brigade and overseen by the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade’s unmanned systems unit. The operation took place in terrain described as saturated with Russian kamikaze FPV drones and mines, which blocked ground extraction.

Separately, SkyFall completed a field demonstration of its StarGate evacuation drone, showing it can carry a weighted stretcher of up to 150 kg over a one‑way distance of 15 km and maintain control despite GPS denial and electronic jamming using a defensive net system and AI navigation. The StarGate trial originated from a request by Flint, commander of the 475th Separate Assault Regiment’s Code 9.2 unit, and is intended as a faster alternative to ground evacuation. Both events highlight Ukrainian experimentation with unmanned systems for battlefield medical evacuation.

Why it matters

Drone‑based evacuation could allow wounded troops to be moved quickly from areas too dangerous for conventional rescue vehicles.

How this story developed

  1. Oct 15 Ukraine trials StarGate drone to airlift wounded soldiers from combat zones
  2. Oct 19 A single Heavy Shot drone lift was carried out on the Kharkiv front.
