Ukraine reports extensive Russian personnel and equipment losses since 2022 invasion
Ukraine's General Staff says Russian forces have incurred significant casualties and large quantities of military hardware losses since the war began.
According to the Ukrainian General Staff, Russian forces have endured substantial personnel casualties, with 1,530 reported in the latest day of combat. The report enumerates equipment losses that include 12,345 tanks, 25,339 armored combat vehicles, 149,557 support vehicles and fuel tanks, 49,820 artillery pieces, 2,132 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,642 air-defence units, 442 aircraft, 356 helicopters, 2,630 unmanned ground systems, 519,069 aerial drones, 35 ships and boats, and two submarines.
Ukraine did not disclose its own loss numbers, invoking operational secrecy. Independent Western think-tank assessments, like those from CSIS, suggest Russian casualties are markedly higher than Ukrainian ones, with ratios estimated around 2:1 to 2.5:1. President Volodymyr Zelensky has previously indicated at least 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers killed, though exact figures remain unverified.
