Ukraine reports over 1.5 million Russian personnel losses since 2022 invasion
Ukraine's General Staff says Russian forces have suffered about 1,510,000 personnel casualties since the war began, including 1,400 reported in the last day.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russian forces have incurred approximately 1,510,000 personnel casualties since the full-scale invasion began on February 24, 2022, with 1,400 reported in the most recent day. The report also enumerates losses of 12,345 tanks, 25,334 armored combat vehicles, 149,183 transport and fuel vehicles, 49,793 artillery pieces, 2,131 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,638 air-defence units, 442 aircraft, 356 helicopters, 2,626 unmanned ground systems, 518,280 drones, 35 ships and two submarines.
Ukraine did not disclose its own casualty figures, citing operational secrecy. Western think-tank CSIS supports the view that Russian losses far exceed Ukrainian ones, estimating a casualty ratio of roughly 2:1 to 2.5:1. A CSIS report from January 2026 placed Ukrainian casualties between 500,000 and 600,000, with 100,000 to 140,000 fatalities, while President Volodymyr Zelensky told France TV that at least 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed.
