Ukraine reports over 1.5 million Russian personnel lost since 2022 invasion
Ukraine's General Staff says Russian forces have suffered about 1,525,570 personnel casualties since the war began, including 1,590 in the last day.
On Sept. 25, Ukraine's General Staff released figures indicating that Russian forces have incurred approximately 1,525,570 personnel casualties since the full-scale invasion began on Feb. 24, 2022, with 1,590 of those occurring in the latest day. The report also enumerated material losses, including 12,369 tanks, 25,415 armored combat vehicles, over 50,000 artillery pieces, more than 400 aircraft and helicopters, and dozens of ships and submarines.
Ukrainian casualty numbers were withheld for operational reasons, though President Volodymyr Zelensky has previously stated that at least 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed. Independent Western analyses, such as those from CSIS, contend that Russian losses outpace Ukrainian ones by a margin of roughly two to one. The data underscores the heavy attrition both sides have endured over the multi-year conflict.
