Ukraine reports over 1.5 million Russian troop losses and massive equipment attrition since 2022
Ukraine's General Staff says Russian forces have suffered about 1,532,500 personnel casualties and extensive equipment losses since the invasion began.
On September 29, Ukraine's General Staff released figures indicating that Russian forces have incurred approximately 1,532,500 personnel casualties since the full-scale invasion started on February 24, 2022, with 1,440 of those occurring in the most recent 24-hour period. The report also enumerated substantial equipment losses: 12,388 tanks, 25,463 armored combat vehicles, 155,031 vehicles and fuel tanks, 50,498 artillery systems, 2,169 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,681 air-defence systems, 443 aircraft, 356 helicopters, 538,702 unmanned aerial vehicles, 2,780 unmanned ground vehicles, 35 ships and boats, and two submarines.
Ukraine withheld its own casualty figures for security reasons. Western think-tank analyses corroborate that Russian losses far outpace Ukrainian ones, estimating a ratio of roughly two to one or higher. President Volodymyr Zelensky has previously cited at least 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers killed, underscoring the war’s heavy human cost.
