Ukraine reports over 1.5 million Russian troop losses and extensive equipment casualties since 2022
Ukraine's General Staff says Russian forces have lost 1,519,650 personnel and large quantities of equipment since the invasion began, including 1,660 casualties in the past day.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced that Russian forces have suffered 1,519,650 personnel casualties since the full-scale invasion started on February 24, 2022, and that 1,660 of those occurred in the last day. Equipment losses reported include 12,361 tanks, 25,365 armored combat vehicles, 151,861 vehicles and fuel tanks, 50,142 artillery pieces, 2,149 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,662 air-defence systems, 442 aircraft, 356 helicopters, 2,712 unmanned ground vehicles, 35 ships and boats, and two submarines.
Ukraine did not disclose its own casualty figures, citing operational secrecy. Western think-tank analyses concur that Russian losses surpass Ukrainian ones, with CSIS estimating a casualty ratio of about 2 to 2.5 to 1 in Russia’s favour. A CSIS report from January 2026 placed Ukrainian casualties between 500,000 and 600,000, with 100,000 to 140,000 killed, while President Volodymyr Zelensky has previously claimed at least 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers killed.
