Ukraine reports Russia's losses exceed 1.5 million personnel and massive equipment depletion
Ukraine's General Staff says Russian forces have suffered about 1,506,900 personnel casualties since the invasion began, alongside heavy losses of tanks, aircraft and other hardware.
The Ukrainian General Staff announced that Russian forces have endured approximately 1,506,900 personnel losses since the full-scale invasion started on February 24, 2022, with 1,520 of those occurring in the most recent day. Equipment losses reported include 12,344 tanks, 25,330 armored combat vehicles, 148,259 vehicles and fuel tanks, 49,678 artillery systems, 2,120 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,635 air-defence systems, 442 aircraft, 356 helicopters, 2,603 unmanned ground systems, 514,317 aerial drones, 5,111 cruise missiles, 35 ships and boats, and two submarines.
A Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) study from January 2026 suggests Ukrainian casualties total between 500,000 and 600,000, with 100,000 to 140,000 fatalities. President Volodymyr Zelensky told France TV on February 4 that at least 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed, with many more missing. The intensity of ongoing combat and drone strikes hampers Ukraine's ability to recover bodies for DNA verification.
