Ukraine's security service says it captured a senior Russian spy in Kherson
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced the arrest of a former Ukrainian air force technician who allegedly worked for Russia's FSB and passed critical intelligence during the 2022 occupation of Kherson.
According to a press release, the SBU detained a man in Kherson whom it describes as one of Russia's most secretive agents. The individual retired from the Ukrainian military in 2018 as an aviation technician and, after the city fell under Russian control in 2022, allegedly joined the FSB. Authorities claim he transmitted key information that enabled Russian strikes on the city. The capture is presented as a major intelligence victory for Kyiv's counter-espionage efforts.
Why it matters
Capturing a key Russian spy could disrupt intelligence flows and aid Ukraine's defence of contested territories.
