Ukraine says Russian forces have lost about 1.55 million personnel since 2022

Ukraine's General Staff reports that Russian troops casualties total roughly 1,549,490 since the invasion began, with 1,710 casualties recorded in the latest day.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russian forces have suffered about 1,549,490 personnel casualties since the war began on Feb. 24, 2022, with 1,710 casualties reported in the most recent day. The same briefing listed extensive equipment losses, including 12,402 tanks, 25,509 armored combat vehicles, 160,412 vehicles and fuel tanks, 50,950 artillery systems, 2,199 multiple-launch rocket systems, 1,693 air-defence systems, 443 aircraft, 356 helicopters, 2,908 unmanned ground vehicles, 35 ships and boats, and two submarines.

Ukraine did not publish its own loss figures, invoking operational secrecy. Western think-tank analyses concur that Russian casualties are substantially higher than Ukrainian ones, estimating a ratio of roughly 2 to 2.5 to 1. A CSIS study from early 2026 placed Ukrainian casualties between 500,000 and 600,000, with 100,000 to 140,000 fatalities, while President Volodymyr Zelensky has previously said at least 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed.
