Ukraine says Russian forces have suffered 1,528,970 casualties and heavy equipment losses since 2022 invasion
Ukraine's General Staff announced that Russian troops have incurred 1,528,970 casualties since the war began, alongside the loss of thousands of tanks, aircraft and other weapons.
On Sept. 27, Ukraine's General Staff disclosed that Russian forces have incurred 1,528,970 casualties since the full-scale invasion began on Feb. 24, 2022, with 1,690 casualties recorded in the latest 24-hour period. The report also enumerates extensive equipment losses: 12,384 tanks, 25,442 armored combat vehicles, 154,245 vehicles and fuel tanks, 50,428 artillery pieces, 2,163 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,677 air-defence systems, 443 aircraft, 356 helicopters, 2,762 unmanned ground vehicles, 35 ships and boats, and two submarines.
Ukraine did not release its own casualty figures, citing operational secrecy. Western think-tank analyses concur that Russian losses considerably outpace Ukrainian ones, estimating a casualty ratio of roughly 2 to 1 or higher. President Volodymyr Zelensky has previously cited at least 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers killed, though official Ukrainian numbers remain undisclosed.
