Ukrainian drones hit Uralchem's Azot plant in Perm Krai, disrupting production
Ukrainian drones struck the Azot nitrogen-fertiliser facility near Perm on September 11, halting output and prompting local evacuations.
On September 11, Ukrainian drones attacked industrial facilities in Russia's Perm Krai, according to Governor Dmitry Makhonin. Independent Telegram channel Astra pinpointed the Azot plant in Berezniki, a Uralchem subsidiary, as one of the struck sites. The plant, a major producer of nitrogen fertilizers and explosive-grade chemicals, employs about 2,500 people.
Workers said explosions forced a shutdown of production, and locals reported a strong chemical smell. The incident led to the cancellation of school classes and the suspension of patient appointments at local clinics. Uralchem has not released an official statement, and this follows a previous drone strike on the same plant in October 2025.
Why it matters
The strike disrupts a key Russian chemical producer and highlights the ongoing cross-border conflict's impact on industry.
