Ukrainian forces strike Russian Su-24 and multiple sites in occupied Crimea and Donetsk
Ukraine says its troops hit a Russian Su-24 bomber at Saky air base in occupied Crimea and attacked several drone and ammunition facilities in Donetsk, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
According to the Ukrainian General Staff, a strike conducted on September 15-16 damaged a Russian Su-24 bomber at the Saky air base in Russian-occupied Crimea. The same series of attacks hit a Russian drone launch and storage facility near Donetsk, as well as three ground control stations for drones in Staromlynivka, Pokrovsk and Pokrovske. Ukrainian forces also reported hitting an ammunition depot in Luhansk Oblast and fuel and lubricant storage bases in both Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia oblasts.
The Su-24, a Soviet-designed twin-engine tactical bomber still used by both sides, suffered unknown damage. The General Staff said assessments of the aircraft and other targets are still underway. This follows a previous claim by Ukraine’s Omega special forces that they struck a Su-24M at the same base in July.
