Ukraine is adding microphones and loudspeakers to its uncrewed ground vehicles so they can listen for enemy activity and broadcast messages urging Russian soldiers to surrender.
Ukrainian forces are increasingly deploying uncrewed ground vehicles for combat, logistics and medical evacuation, and they are now adding microphones and speakers to turn these machines into mobile listening posts and loudspeakers. Companies like DevDroid, whose R&D director Oleg Fedoryshyn highlighted the need to address both enemies and friendly troops, stream live audio to operators and can broadcast live or pre-recorded messages.
Footage shows Russian soldiers surrendering after hearing such messages, while Ukrainian units use the speakers to request ammo or convey status updates when radios fail. The audio sensors complement camera feeds, detecting movements hidden by terrain such as tall grass. Rapid software updates allow new features, including weapon integration, to be rolled out across fleets within days, reflecting frontline feedback.
