Ukrainian MiG-29 pilot killed after Russian missile downed his jet

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that a Russian missile struck a MiG-29 over eastern Ukraine on Oct. 1. The aircraft's commander, 25-year-old Captain Marat Redvanovych Mambetov, attempted to eject but was killed. Mambetov served as a flight commander in the "Ghost of Kyiv" 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade, which operates from Vasylkiv Air Base in Kyiv Oblast. The Air Force expressed condolences to his family, noting his dedication to defending Ukraine.
