Ukrainian pilots urge West to supply large numbers of simple attack drones
Ukrainian drone crews say they need cheap, easy-to-use FPV drones in huge quantities, warning Western makers that overly complex designs hinder frontline use.
Ukrainian drone pilots stress the necessity for simple, low-cost first-person-view attack drones that can be manufactured in very large batches. They argue that many Western offerings are burdened with advanced autonomy and navigation systems that are ill-suited to the fast-changing battlefield and inflate prices. Ukrainian operators favor drones they can readily tweak themselves, and local companies such as SkyFall and General Cherry are already supplying these basic platforms.
A representative from TechEx said Western firms are constrained by peacetime regulatory layers that complicate design and slow high-volume output. The feedback aligns with broader Western observations that the conflict highlights a need for cheaper, mass-produced weaponry rather than a few high-tech systems.
Why it matters
The call for simple, mass-produced drones could reshape how allies supply weapons to Ukraine and future conflicts.
