Ukrainian special forces raze Russian drone-training hub in occupied Kherson

Ukraine's HUR special unit and a drone regiment struck a Russian drone-operator training centre in Khorly, Kherson Oblast, on Oct. 11.

On Oct. 11, Ukrainian forces from the HUR special unit "Shamanbat" and the 426th Separate Unmanned Systems Regiment carried out a night-time attack on a Russian drone-operator training centre in Khorly, an occupied part of Kherson Oblast. The target, linked to the 18th Combined Arms Army, was hit by several drone strikes, as shown in footage released by HUR, which also displayed the complete ruin of the facility. In addition to the training site, the operation destroyed the residence of Russian officers who oversee sabotage group training for the same army.

The Ukrainian military intelligence agency reported that the strike eliminated the centre entirely. The 18th Combined Arms Army, formed in August 2022, was created to free up more experienced units for key fronts, according to the U.K. defence ministry.

Why it matters

The strike hampers Russia's ability to train drone crews and sabotage units in the occupied Kherson region.
