Ukrainian traveler missing in San Diego appears to have crossed into Mexico
San Diego County officials say Ganna Kovrizhynkh, who disappeared while driving through the area last July, is likely in Mexico's Sinaloa state.
Ganna Kovrizhynkh, a 38-year-old Ukrainian who vanished in the San Diego area last July, is believed to have crossed the border into Mexico on her own accord, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators reached her on Aug. 7, confirming her identity and learning she is staying in Sinaloa, a state far south of the U.S. border. Her vehicle and trailer were discovered unattended in the community of Potrero, north of the border, after a friend reported her missing during a cross-country road trip from Hallandale Beach, Florida, to California.
The sheriff’s office has notified the Ukrainian embassy of her whereabouts, but why she chose to enter Mexico has not been explained. Prior to her disappearance, Kovrizhynkh had sent an unsettling message to her mother with a photograph of a letter and GPS coordinates, instructing her to transfer personal assets. She also used the alias “Angel Volnaya” on social media, where she described herself as a psychic-artist and author of a book titled “Zeroing.”
