UMNO veterans urge party unity against rival pressure and call for strategic alliances

During the 2026 UMNO General Assembly in Kuala Lumpur, veteran committee member Datuk Adam Abd Hamid appealed for the party to remain cohesive and not become a conduit for rival narratives, particularly those from Pakatan Harapan. He argued that unity is essential to withstand growing political pressure, intimidation and attacks, and that the party should champion justice, transparent legal processes, and protect individuals from perception-based punishment.

Adam called for a realignment of Malay-Muslim political strength based on the Federal Constitution and national stability, without hostility toward other races. He urged strategic negotiations with Perikatan Nasional, especially PAS, emphasizing cooperation on economic and food-security issues rather than competing for the prime-ministerial post. Additionally, he proposed that veterans be incorporated into UMNO’s election machinery at all levels to leverage their community networks and restore public confidence.
