UN agency reports nearly 86,000 displaced by renewed Yemen fighting

According to the International Organization for Migration, renewed combat between Yemen's government troops and Houthi rebels has pushed nearly 86,000 people from their homes, a rise of about 10,000 in a single day. The agency highlighted that many displaced families have been forced to move repeatedly, underscoring the depth of the crisis. More than 2,000 women and children have fled by sea to Djibouti since Thursday evening, where they are being taken to a reception site in Obock for urgent assistance.

IOM Director General Amy Pope emphasized the dire poverty and conflict driving these movements and called for greater international aid. The report follows reports of intensified clashes that have killed hundreds and of Houthi advances along the Red Sea coast, including the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
